I've been renting in Britain for over 30 years. In that time I've lived through damp that landlords insisted was “just condensation”. Deposits withheld over things that were there when I moved in. Washing machines that drained into the kitchen floor. Mice. Electrics that probably should have killed me. Landlords who were wonderful humans. And landlords who treated their tenants like an inconvenience.

What struck me most wasn't just the bad properties — it was the lack of accountability. There was no way to know, before you signed, whether a landlord was decent or a nightmare. No way to check if the boiler had been ignored for three years. No way to find out that the “quiet street” backed onto a distribution centre.

And the search sites. God, the search sites. SpareRoom is cluttered and confusing. OpenRent looks like it was designed in 2009 and never revisited. Rightmove is built for agents, not tenants. None of them are actually on your side.

So I built Havita. A platform designed from the ground up by someone who's actually been the tenant. Verified listings so you know what you're looking at is real. Honest landlord reviews that can't be edited or removed. A certification system so good landlords can prove it — and bad ones can't hide.

Britain's rental market has brilliant landlords and genuinely lovely homes. It also has a lot of the opposite. Havita's job is to help you tell the difference — before you sign anything.
